I’ve worked with domescreens in several projects, especially exploring how interactivity and visual design behave in that format. One of the bigger projects was CUPOLAB, which started as our bachelor project and later grew into a small startup with two collaborators.
Planetarium asked us to bring interactivity into their big dome theater, so we developed a system where the audience could use their own smartphones as laser-pointer-style controllers. Up to 20 people could join the experience at once, taking part in a 20-minute Mars mission where they collected materials and built a colony together.
The main challenges were making the interaction intuitive, keeping it accessible across ages and devices, and making sure the system worked technically for everyone in the space. We built the whole project in Unity, including UI, sound, storyline, gameplay, and implementation.
